About
Dr Joanna Shewring is an experienced leader in heritage and capital project delivery, with over two decades of experience across complex and sensitive historic estates. Her work spans World Heritage Sites, listed buildings, scheduled monuments, MOD estate improvements, and extreme environments, including research bases in Antarctica.
With a background in building surveying and heritage asset management, Joanna leads projects from early strategy through to delivery. She is known for balancing conservation with contemporary use, guiding multidisciplinary teams and working closely with stakeholders to deliver practical, well-considered outcomes in live environments.
Joanna is a Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB) and a member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). She holds a PhD from the University of Reading focused on Building Information Modelling (BIM) for heritage asset management, and is co-author of BIM for Heritage: Developing the Asset Information Model, published by Historic England.
She has held senior project and estate management roles, and her approach combines strong programme leadership with clear communication and a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
